American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Since 1866 the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been committed to alleviating pain, fear and suffering in all animals. Founded by Henry Bergh, the ASPCA is the oldest humane organization in America, and one of the largest hands-on animal welfare organizations in the world. The ASPCA believes that humans have the ability and the responsibility to provide all animals in our society with an existence that is as peaceful and respectful as possible.

American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), established in 1972, is the recognized specialty college responsible for establishing training requirements, evaluating and accrediting training programs, and examining and certifying veterinarians in the veterinary specialties of Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Large Animal Internal Medicine, and Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Veterinary Cancer Society The Veterinary Cancer Society was formed in 1974 by an interested group of veterinary oncologists. Interesting Case


KiaraHistory: “Kiara” is a 4 month old Yorkshire terrier that presented for gagging and foaming at the mouth. Her owner stated that she had aggressively taken a treat away from the housemate 30-40 minutes prior to the symptoms starting. “Kiara” has no other medical conditions and is current on all vaccinations.

Exam: “Kiara’s” physical exam was all normal except for a small amount of regurgitation and persistent gulping.

Diagnostics: Radiographs (see radiographs at bottom of page) revealed a large foreign body lodged in the proximal esophagus...
